Our Kids Are New at This
for some, it is hard to imagine a life in which our bodies do not cooperate with our minds.
in this country in particular, as we acquire more and more years under our belts, it is more common (NOT normal) for new clients to come to the inside space, sit in the chair that many of you have sat in, and share this very sentiment.
however, with a huge shift that has been the last several years, it seems that we are seeing this more and more frequently in our children, as compared to how we felt when we were kids.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
there is an increasing sense of dis-ease that is being witnessed in so many kids today.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
but here's the thing:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
this can all be boiled down to one thing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
nervous system function.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
as adults, when we feel stressed, we have adapted coping mechanisms to either handle or hide from the root cause of our stressors. this is after many years of adapting, experiencing, living, and then deciding whether or not we wish to proceed.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
our kids are new at this. and we would be wise to consider that one of the most important things we can do to support these future world leaders, astronauts, presidents, and all around wonderful humans, is to help them feel safe in their bodies.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
how can we do this?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
by getting adjusted.
by increasing vagal tone.
by increasing our own ability to regulate our nervous systems.
by decreasing exposure to stressful stimuli such as technology, toxins, and traumas.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
by softening.
