Suppressing Our Appetite
in american culture and society, we have been conditioned to think that we need to do something silly and suppress our appetite (especially in the morning) as opposed to leaning in to the sensation of hunger. hunger and appetite are interoceptive cues from our bodies signaling to us that we are in need of energy and EVEN of specific vitamins and minerals based on what those cravings may be.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
those feelings are NOT futile!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
however, when we have a nervous system that is under stress, it becomes increasingly challenging to listen to those cues, oh so intelligently placed there by this innate (meaning no learning required) intelligence that resides within each and every one of of us since day zero.

hunger is not something that is meant to be ignored or avoided. it is not something that is bad or shameful.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
hunger is a normal physiological, dare we say, *experience* that has gotten such a bad rap in our culture over the last several decades.

the next time a feeling of hunger arises, we invite you to listen to it. no really listen to it. take a moment of pause and try to decipher what it is that your body is really craving. the answer may intrigue you.
