Living Expanded and Extended
Living life in a state of expansion—and extension
Think about some of the most upbeat, positive, joy-filled people that you know.
Picture how they move through this world.
They walk tall with their head held high over their shoulders, rib cage open, and a buoyancy in their step that cannot be missed.
These men, women, children, move in what feels so often like a wave of positivity. They carry a field that is electrically charged with joy, with acceptance, with openness, with ease. They emit a resonance that, if caught, reminds us that it is okay to just be. This, to me, feels like a state of expansion.
Expansion is defined as “a thing formed by enlargement or broadening of something” (thanks, Google!).
On any given day, these people who are living in this state of expansion are able to share some of these good vibes with others who may be in need. They help to allow space for others to come back to themselves, to a state of ease, to a state of acceptance, until they, too, are ready to expand again.
On a very physical level, let’s tie this all together and discuss one thing that all of our “expanders” have in common.
Do you know what it is?
They are physically in a state of extension.
We have defined expansion, now let’s go ahead and define extension as well. In terms of movement, extension is defined as the increase in angle between two body parts. It is a measurement of openness.
When the brain and nervous system are physiologically in a state of safety, we find ourselves in positions of extension. Physically, we feel taller, more confident, more open. Physiological safety brings about positive emotions, allowing us to feel acceptance, peace, and connection. Perhaps most importantly, when we are feeling physiologically safe, our bodies can move into a state of healing.
Of course, some other fairly amazing things happen here too, such as finding ourselves with more regular bowel movements, improved and more restorative sleep, and better digestion, just to name a few.
On the contrary, when we are lacking physiological safety we find ourselves in a state of flexion. When we feel this lack of physiological safety, we tend to feel closed and contracted. This is our primitive brain’s attempt for us to find safety. To get small, to get quiet, and to survive.
Here at Organic Family, we believe that no one should have to feel stuck in a state of survival, of contraction, of simply getting by. There is far too much life to live.
So what can we do about it?
Our favorite way to promote physiological safety, extension, and expansion is via the chiropractic adjustment. The chiropractic adjustment allows us to work together to help the brain and body come back to a state of safety, of peace, of openness.
The adjustment allows for increased ease in movement (which is essentially fuel for the brain). It allows us to physically move in a state of extension, a state of openness. It allows us to drop the baggage that our bodies and are nervous systems have been carrying around, that have been pulling us into these states of flexion (to kindly get rid of the nerve blockages that were hanging out in the first place).
In moving into this state of safety, we find ourselves living every aspect of our lives in extension and in expansion. We feel resilient, we feel adaptable, and we feel at home in our bodies and our minds. And this is where the real fun begins.
We are looking so forward to supporting you and your family in extension and expansion.
